Reportage Photography by Gavin Woollard

Reportage Photography by Gavin Woollard

Reportage photography is an unobtrusive style with the emphasis on telling a story-telling.

When I bought the domain name I never knew how much this type of photography would take off. It was early days of the internet and I was trying to find a name that would explain how I enjoyed photographing weddings.

The slideshow below is a selection of mostly unposed wedding images.

If you like what you see then please do get in touch for a chat.

Naturally most people also like a handful of family images on a wedding day.
I’m happy to do that but the emphasis is on the day playing out and me covering it as it unfolds.

Does that sound how you would like your day to happen?

After all, I’m sure you want a wedding , not a photo-shoot…

Please get in call 01245421224 or email me at gavinwoollard at . (You know how to format that – it just saves me getting spammed with crazy emails).

A marquee wedding in Essex

A Marquee wedding in Essex

This was exactly how a marquee wedding in Essex should be done. Will and Amy not only had the best day with fantastic guests but the weather could not have been kinder for them.

I started with Amy and the girls getting ready at home before meeting Will in his local pub in Halstead.

Arriving at the pub for pictures, the lads looked great in their blue suits and I particularly liked the personalised details inside Will’s collar.

The minister at their local church was very accommodating and allowed discreet photography during the service. This is refreshing attitude that makes for some great natural, unobtrusive pictures.

Rather than spend long at the church we took a few brief pictures in the grounds. Then we headed off to the reception.

The Reception

The marquee reception took place at a fabulous marquee in the garden at Will’s sisters house.

Hay bales and huge ‘LOVE’ letters made a great backdrop for some funky pictures with friends and family. The garden backed onto to cornfield which was absolutely stunning.

Especially memorable was the fantastic surprise of a fly past. This finished with a loop the loop that (almost) made a heart-shape out of the smoke.

Later, they entered the marquee to the biggest cheer I have heard in ages. The speeches were totally uprorious.

The light in the evening was simply stunning and made for some beautiful natural portraits of the happy couple.

During the first dance a confetti canon was fired showering the marquee with a fabulous photographic opportunity.

Looking back, I cannot believe how fortunate we are with the sky in the evening.

I love creating my signature ‘silhouette’ images and the nights sky was just perfect.

As marquee weddings go this will take some beating. I look forward to seeing Will ad Amy in the future at their friend’s weddings. If they are half as much fun as this one they will be a riot!

Please email gavinwoollard @ if you are planning a marquee wedding in Essex or any other county.

Boreham House Prom photography

Boreham House Prom Photography

Boreham House Prom Photography by Gavin Woollard.

Boreham House Prom photography

I’m looking forward to seeing loads of you at your prom night over the next few weeks at at Boreham House.
I’m sure all the girls will look stunning and the lads will look marginally better than they do on a normal school day.
Just a quick heads up as to how things will work.
I will be shooting the prom portraits in the beautiful wedding room that everyone will go through before heading into the pavilion. There’s a lot of you to photograph in a short space of time.

I photographed over 25,000 people at Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle during my career and we will organise your prom photography in a very similar way.

So, to make things run smoothly and make sure everyone that wants me to photograph them gets the chance there’s some ways you can help.

1 – Only people that choose to have their portrait done and pay on the night will be photographed.

That way I can spend more time helping those that choose to have them done to look amazing.
There is, of course, no obligation to have them done (but you might not be this well dressed again until you get married!) . Cash or card payments can be taken. Please bring one or the other.

2 – Have a think about your group of friends. I will be shooting magazine style groups. Think of ‘Made in Chelsea’ or ‘the Kardashians’.

So, if you have a bunch of friends and you want a fantastic portrait this is a great opportunity.

You may also want a picture with a special friend (prom date maybe?) .  You might like an individual portrait.

We will offer 2 sizes of print. 8 x 6 inches at £10 or 10 x 8 inches at £15.

3 – Do be aware that images will not be going online so if you would like to order a portrait a decision will need to be made on the night.

4 – Time permitting we may be able to do a group shot of everybody just before you go to eat so if you would like a copy of that you may order one of those as well.

As I say this is time permitting so you would need to gather everyone together after we’ve done all the group images.

This is the sort of cool group portrait I took at last years proms.

Boreham House Prom

Once again I look forward to photographing you all at your fantastic Prom night at Boreham House.

My daughter had her Sandon School Prom at Boreham House on Tuesday 4th July. She didn’t have any money on her.

She has given me your business card so I can contact you about a photo.

Is too late to order a photo?

Many thanks.

Michele Crawley - July 12, 2017 - 8:49 am

My son attended the St Martins Prom on Friday 7th July 2017 at Boreham House, Chelmsford. The school sent a letter before the event advising that photographs would be available for sale after the event. Could you please advise how I can do this.

Many thanks
Michele Crawley

Gavin - July 12, 2017 - 10:49 am

Hello Michelle,
Thanks for your message.
I’m not sure why the school said that as they were told by the venue that pictures were available to purchase on the night only.
As there has been some miscommunication please email and we will try to sort out an alternative. Regards Gavin Woollard photography

Michele - July 12, 2017 - 12:05 pm

My apologies, my son did order on the night and hadn’t told me.
